this is'nt a RAU frame, this is a PSS frame, it's the bike from Dieter, a german who's living in Paris, and he is a member of the german spezialframe Forum.

Salut tout les monde !

It's funny to see pictures of my PSS and the Rau from Klaus Dony in this Forum. I know Klaus quite well as we both like the south of France very much. We and a couple of friends (everybody has an old aircooled Kawasaki inline four) go there more or less every year on Pentecoast for a four or five days ride since this is THE motorcycle paradise in Europe.

Anyway, yes, it's a PSS not a Rau. I just sometimes call it a Rau because there are not a lot of people around that are aware of a company called PSS. Some people don't even know Egli and I have already met a lot of French people who have never heard about Moto Martin...


In order to avoid any confusion between Rau and PSS in the future I will briefly summarize the history of these two companies:

Rau was founded by a guy called Manfred Rau in 1972. His frames followed the design of Egli but there was one big difference: The headstock of an Egli frame is always welded to the front end of the central tube whereas it is fully integrated on a Rau frame. Furthermore Rau frames are always welded whereas Egli frames are somtimes hard-soldered (like the Moto Martin frames).

PSS was founded by Reiner Weidlich in 1977. He started to sell Rau frames and soonly he became the most importent distributer. In 1981 he started to build his own frames, the central tubing frame with side tubes (renforts latéraux), first with twin shock then with a Cantilever system and finally with a single shock absorber attached to the right hand side of the swingarm.

One day the two companies merged and were now called PSS-Rau but in 1985 Manfred Rau had enough and sold his shares and rights to Reiner Weidlich who continued with the business.

The company PSS-Rau still exists today but they are selling only Rau frames.

I know this sounds quite complicated but actually it is easy to distinguish the two brands: If the frame has side tubes (renforts latéraux) it's a PSS, if not it's a Rau.

By the way, many people that had worked for Rau created their own business later on:
- Jung: He built special frames like Rau.
- Krüger & Junginger: They are very famous for their swingarms. Monsieur Krüger started his career as a welder for Rau.
Reinschüssel: They made a lot of tanks for Rau.
Alutank: A guy who is very active in the German special frame forum. He built the tanks for PSS.

Pour la Lawson Réplica, c'est une idée que j'ai depuis longtemps et ce n'est pas moi qui ai acheté celle de BIKESIDE
